A formation of 17 C-17 Globemaster IIIs from Charleston Air Force Base conduct low-level training over the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, Charleston, S.C., on its way to a massive airdrop at North Auxiliary Air Field, S.C. December 20, 2005. The C-17 formation lead by Col. Glen Joerger, Commander, 437th Airlift Wing, is the largest formation of C-17s from a single base. On average, CharlestonÕs C-17s move more than 295 tons of cargo every day. Approximately 45 percent of all air cargo bound for American war fighters in Iraq and Afghanistan originates at Charleston AFB.
